Name: Lemming Musuwa

Firm: Wealth Associates

Position: Financial planner

Who is your favourite type of client? I truly value working with clients who are open-minded and eager to actively participate in shaping their financial future. At Wealth Associates, we believe financial planning works best as a partnership, tailored to a client’s unique needs and goals for the long term.

Rather than quick solutions, I focus on building comprehensive, proactive plans that prepare for both expected milestones and unexpected challenges. This way, clients can feel confident knowing we have strategies in place to support them, whatever comes their way.

What is your investment philosophy? The Albert Einstein quote, ‘Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world’ and ‘He who understands it earns it … he who doesn’t … pays it’ resonates with me. Investments accumulate substantial growth over long periods.

As a firm, we strive to deliver portfolios with consistent and repeatable, risk-adjusted investment performance to meet our clients’ goals. It is my mission to ensure that my clients’ goals remain within reach, irrespective of their life stage, especially in this uncertain, ever-changing world.

What is keeping you awake at night? Clients’ concerns and outcomes take centre stage for me. Key questions include whether clients are on track to meet their financial goals, understand their financial position and will follow advice. Other important considerations involve managing a practice and staying updated with the evolving compliance landscape.

What are you most excited about? My excitement lies in the impact I have on people’s lives. Seeing clients reach goals like purchasing a car or house, retiring comfortably, or overcoming life challenges is rewarding and demonstrates the value we as advisers have to add.

If you weren’t doing this job, what would you be doing? Outside of my profession, I live for football. I would have likely found myself involved in anything to do with football or sports science. Analytical work and the numbers game are inherent skills for me.

What would you like to have more time for? Outside of spending more time with clients, I would like to spend more time with my son. He is my source of joy and provides meaning to my life.

What are you reading? I enjoy reading self-help books. I’m currently reading How Countries Go Broke by Ray Dalio. This sheds light and understanding on macroeconomics and the debt cycle. Basically, he explains that debt is modern-day slavery and, left unchecked, a crisis will ensue. I’m also reading The Barefoot Coach by Paddy Upton. This is an inspiring book about how sport translates into real life in areas such as leadership, winning, failure, resolving challenges and high performance.

What are you listening to? I am a big fan of deep house and the Amapiano music genre.

What are you watching? Besides English Premier League football, I really enjoy watching historical documentaries. l’m watching the Shaka iLembe series, which tells the story of King Shaka of the Zulu kingdom.

Do you have any hidden talents? I have always been an athlete. I’ve played most sports and was quite good at most. This includes football, athletics, rugby and basketball, among others.
